If your Friday night is currently devoid of plans, you can't go wrong with tickets to see Red Baraat at SFJAZZ. NPR called the band, which mixes North Indian beats with New Orleans-style brass, the "best party band in years."
The Boston Globe describes Red Baraat as a "new-breed marching-band music that’s part Punjabi wedding, part New Orleans second line, and all New York." Based in Brooklyn, the band is currently on a West Coast tour, and was invited to play at SFJAZZ as part of the venue's annual Brass Fest (which also features Big Sam's Funky Nation tonight and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble on Saturday).
This is the second appearance at SFJAZZ for Red Baraat, which played a sold-out show at the venue last year. This year, they've prepared for the crowds by playing a double show, with concerts at both 7pm and 9:30pm in the venue's large Miner Auditorium.
Tickets start at $30 for a spot on the dance floor, and $40 or $55 for seats. Have fun getting your dance on.
If a rollicking dance party isn't quite up your alley, here are a few other events taking place in the neighborhood. For more events from around the city, check out hoodline.com/events. You can also submit an event to be included in a future roundup.
