Dozens of families turned out for the second annual Buona Pasqua! Ray Piccinini Easter Parade on Saturday morning at Washington Square Park. Little ones donned bunny ears to ride bikes, trikes and wagons decked out in the season's finest decorations, and receive eggs filled with treats from the Easter Bunny.
The event kicked off at 9:30am with a breakfast of pancakes, sausage and eggs at the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club, across from the park. Around 11:30am, everyone scooted out to do a couple of laps around the park, led by the Easter Bunny and accompanied by accordion music.
The event, sponsored in part by North Beach Neighbors, is a tribute to late North Beach resident Ray Piccinini, who visited the children's wards of city hospitals for 50 years while dressed as the Easter Bunny and passing out treats. The tradition is being carried on by his great-nephew Craig Gianinno, who visits the hospitals each year, and his nephew, Jack Piccinini, who dons the costume at the parade. Ray's wife, Pam Piccinini, attended as well.
Here are a few scenes from yesterday's festivities.
