Port And City Selected For Program To Help Find Seawall SolutionsPhoto: Geri Koeppel/Hoodline

Thanks to enough votes from the public, the Port of San Francisco and the city were chosen by a program called City Accelerator to get assistance with brainstorming innovative ways to get funding for the Great Seawall, which is estimated to need $5 billion of work over the next few generations. We reported earlier on the contest, which gave details about how it works.

The Port collected 445 votes in two days, landing it in second place; other cities participating will be Pittsburgh, PA; Saint Paul, MN; and Washington, D.C.

On a similar note, if you're interested in learning more about sea level rise, you can attend a Waterfront Plan Working Group meeting on the topic from 6–8pm March 23rd in the Bayside Conference Rooms at Pier 1.
