If you won't be letting rain, wind and possible flooding keep you trapped indoors this weekend, than good news: There's quite a bit going on around the neighborhood to keep you entertained.
First, you can help Gauntlet Gallery celebrate its move—to the space right next door, at 1038 Larkin. The inaugural exhibition in their new space, launching tonight, is the latest edition of the gallery's annual 12x12 exhibition, which features the work of 40 local, national and international artists.
Another option tonight: a film screening at the Tenderloin Museum. It's not too late to snag a ticket for "25-Cent Preview," a scrappy, low-budget, award-winning drama that depicts life in Lower Polk for two friends making ends meet as gay prostitutes. It even stars a Tenderloin resident, Dorian Brockington.
Come Saturday, you'll want to dust off your green sequined top hat and shamrock jewelry for the 165th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade & Festival. The festival kicks off at 10am in Civic Center Plaza, where you'll find live cultural performances, arts and crafts, food, drinks and more. The parade then hits its stride—rain or shine—at 11am, marching from Second and Market to the festival zone.
Those looking for a good laugh have plenty of options through the weekend as well—for free, on the cheap or even cheaper.
Finally, don't forget that entry to the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park is free to residents of the Tenderloin this Friday through Sunday. Just bring an ID or piece of mail with proof of your zip code to gain access to all the aquarium, planetarium and natural history museum have to offer.
