With temperatures set to soar to summertime highs, it'll be a perfect weekend to hit the outdoors. Ocean Beach beckons, but as always, be careful when you're out in the water, as sneaker waves and riptides have recently caused drownings.
For book lovers, it's also Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday. The closest participating bookstores for the Outer Sunset community are Green Apple Books on the Park in the Inner Sunset and Bookshop West Portal. There will be a book swap hosted by The Believer magazine, author appearances, and other events for the whole family.
Closer to home, there's a lot to choose from. Outer Sunset residents can participate in the last community work day for Playland at 43rd Avenue, head over to the opening of a new playground at Dianne Feinstein Elementary, or help the Surfrider Foundation clean up Ocean Beach.
There's also the return of local ice cream maker Churn Urban Creamery to a pop-up at Lawton Trading Post, which will coincide with the gallery opening for Emma Fineman's exhibition at Great Highway Gallery next door.
