After the shooting in Orlando last weekend, the Castro has been in mourning all week. Getting back to a normal routine has not been easy, but one of the things that we can do is come together as a community to talk about how this tragedy has affected us. Whether that's meeting at a bar, restaurant, art show, movie, etc. there are many places in this neighborhood that we can gather.
Let's not let the deplorable actions of one man dictate how we live our lives. Here are a few events that you may want to consider attending this week, to connect to others and reflect.

This evening at Harvey Milk Plaza, you can help remember the Orlando victims at the Spread Love Kiss-In. The event's message is simple: "If a same-sex kiss prompted the heinous event in Orlando, then let's flood the internet with positive displays of love." Attendees are encouraged to take kissing selfies and photos using hashtag #SpreadLove.
Frameline40 kicks off this Thursday at the Castro Theatre, and runs through Sunday, June 26th. The LGBT-centric film festival's opening night centers around the documentary Kiki, which takes a look at the "flamboyant and political subculture centered on LGBTQ youth of color, for whom dance is far more than performance."

Saturday afternoon, join Cleve Jones at Jane Warner Plaza for Amor y Solidaridad/Love and Solidarity. This event will honor those lives that were lost last weekend in Orlando. Jones states, "We will NOT be silent. NO to homophobia. NO to racism. NO to transphobia. NO to Islamophobia. NO to the N.R.A. NO to Trump. We will not be divided." The walk will go from the Castro to the Mission, ending at Galería de la Raza.
On Saturday evening, the Harvey Milk Photo Center opens its newest exhibit, just in time for Pride: LGBTQ Chronicled: 1933-2016. Hosted by drag queen Peaches Christ, this photography exhibit will "will focus on a historic body of exciting and iconic photographs showcasing 'Gay Pride,' as well as contemporary photographs from Bay Area LGBT youth and LGBT seniors."
Finally, on Monday, welcome the new location of Dog Eared Books to the neighborhood at a Gala Opening Party. Patrons are invited to "mix 'n' mingle with our staff, drink swanky cocktails, and eat fancy hors d'oeuvres." There will also be briefs readings from by a few favorite local authors, including Tales of The City's Armistead Maupin.
