Event Spotlight: Schroeder's Sells Vintage Steins, Hosts Beer DinnerSchroeder's assistant general manager Aram Roubinian, with some of the items that will be for sale. (Photos: Geri Koeppel/Hoodline)

Each week, we'll feature an especially interesting event in the neighborhood based on the event submissions we get, and what we hear about while we're out on the beat. If you want to be considered for next week, please submit your event here.

One of the many things to love about Schroeder's restaurant in the FiDi—in addition to its biergarten ambiance, stellar beer selection and updated German cuisine—are the ornate steins on display in gleaming glass cases.

Although those steins are in the restaurant's permanent collection, Schroeder's, which was originally founded in 1893 and opened at its current location in 1956, is having an "estate sale" to clear out cases of other steins and beer boots, both new and vintage—along with four very cool mounted aerial photographs of San Francisco from just after the 1906 earthquake.

The steins, some of which are several decades old, were being stored in the basement, but "we needed more room to organize Oktoberfest," said general manager Teresa Breaux.

Display steins will not be for sale.

Starting at 4pm Saturday and running throughout the night, the items for sale will be displayed on the picnic-style tables at the front of the restaurant. "We do have a lot of cool steins for people to buy," Breaux said. They'll start at $5, but the average price will be $20–$30, she said.

The selection will include steins with beer logos, Barenjager mugs with a beehive-style lid and the famous beer boots. New, the boots go for $70, but some were chipped in the course of service and taken out of rotation. Those will sell for $30, and can do double duty as everything from a vase to a massive ice cream sundae dish—use your imagination.

To celebrate the sale, Schroeder's is selling shots of Underberg, an herbal digestif, for $2. Also on Saturday at 6pm, Schroeder's will host a five-course "Ale to Tail" dinner paired with Lagunitas beers for $75. If all that doesn't make you want to say, "Prost!," here are a few more events in the downtown area in the coming days. Don't forget that the Pride Parade starts in the FiDi at Market and Beale streets on Sunday morning, and Market will be closed (and congested, and colorful) for several hours. Happy Pride!
