The weekend is finally upon us, and there are a lot of fun things to do in the neighborhood. So grab your friends and family and head outside, or even inside to watch the Warriors play game six if that's your fancy. (As before, Rose Pistola will be serving $4 drafts during the game, so go Dubs!)
If you are looking for something different, check out Maxence Cyrin, who's playing at Bimbo's 365 Club this Friday at 9pm. He's not only known for his original compositions, but for several solo piano albums covering the likes of the Pixies, Arcade Fire, and even Nirvana. He'll be featuring songs from his new album, Novo Piano II, with covers from the '80s and '90s highlighting a range of songs from The Cure to Van Halen. Tickets are $25.
If a barrel of laughs is more your thing, Aries Spears, comedian and MadTV alumnus, has six shows this weekend at Cobb's Comedy Club. Spears has been performing since he was only 14 years old, and is famous for portraying Bill Cosby, Jesse Jackson, Mike Tyson and Shaquille O'Neal in his sketches and standup.Â
On a sadder note, two notable North Beach fixtures have passed away this week: Caffe Trieste founder 'Papa' Giovanni Giotta and Mike 'Pops' Shawa, owner of Sam's Burgers on Broadway. We send our condolences to their families.Â
Now, on to our editor's picks for the days ahead. For a full list of what's going on around town this weekend and beyond, don't forget to check out hoodline.com/events.
