If you're a Richmond resident looking to spice up your fitness regimen this summer with a little yoga, rejoice: there are studios scattered around the district, and chances are there's somewhere handily close to you.

Here's a roundup of where to practice your downward dog in the neighborhood, including specials, membership prices and unique perks.


Yoga Tree, 182 6th Ave.

"We offer over 25 classes per week of Vinyasa, Hatha, pre- and postnatal yoga, restorative and Kundalini Yoga."

The 6th Avenue location of this citywide yoga standby has cork floors, fits 30 people, and offers both workshops and classes. 

Starter offer: $20 for 3 classes.

Standard rates: 10-class ($160) or 20-class ($260) discount packs or a monthly $155 membership.

SF Ashtanga Yoga, 701 11th Ave.

SF Ashtanga Yoga offers both classes and teacher training, with opportunities for proposing workshops

Starter offer: 10 classes in a month for $100

Standard rates: $20 drop-in, $180 10-class pass (one month limitation), $200 one-month unlimited. Private sessions are also available.

Tea & Yoga Society, 238 22nd Ave.

"Jennifer’s unique classes integrate several different aspects of yoga—asana (physical postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and philosophy—into one accessible lesson. This approach benefits body, breath and mind."

The Tea & Yoga Society offers both yoga classes and women's health classes, as well as private sessions.

Standard rates: $20 drop-in; $120 private session. The studio offers "a generous sliding scale. No one turned away for lack of funds."

Bikram Yoga Seacliff, 6300 California St.

"Our Bikram Hot Yoga Seacliff instructors guide you through the 26 postures, sequence selected and developed by Bikram Choudhury from Hatha Yoga ...  Each component takes care of something different in the body, and yet they all work together synergistically, contributing to the success of every other one, and extending its benefits."

Starter offer: 20 percent discount on your first membership or 10-class trial for $50.

Standard rates: $100-$140 per month in one, three, six, or 12-month memberships. Also available on a per-class basis at $13-$16 per class.

Universal Yoga Center, 446 32nd Ave.

"Universal Yoga Center was founded by Swami Satya Brahmananda in 1990. Its main focus is to create an active awareness of the physical, intellectual and spiritual aspects of human life by offering various programs such as yoga, meditation, stress reduction, anger management, philosophy, diet, nutrition and practical psychology as tools to help achieve these goals."

While Universal Yoga Center offers classes on Thursdays and Saturdays, it's more of a resource for information and research than a practicing center.

The SFYS offers both classes and personalized sessions for individuals and couples.

Standard rates: $20 per class, $102 for 6 classes or $192 for 12 within six months.

Purusha Yoga, 3729 Balboa St.

"Purusha is the Sanskrit term for the true self. Purusha is a full-service, class and workshop type yoga studio that also offers massage, teacher training, and retreats, as well as occasional free classes in Golden Gate Park.

Starter offer: $49 for an unlimited one-month starter membership.

Standard rates: $20 per class for drop-ins, unlimited annual membership for $800 or half-yearly for $450.
