A pair of water rescues near Aquatic Park made headlines over the weekend, leading the local Coast Guard to issue new safety warnings for those going out on the water.

The first rescue occurred on Saturday afternoon, when 15 children and an adult chaperone had to be rescued when their 30-foot catamaran capsized near Aquatic Park around 3:30pm. According to ABC7, the kids were all members of the Boy Scouts' Sea Scouts program. While everyone on board was wearing a life jacket, they were all transported to the hospital as a precaution; there appear to have been no injuries.

A more serious rescue came on Sunday, when the Fire Department responded to an incident involving a 40-year-old man found in the bay, again near Aquatic Park. The man, who was wearing a life jacket, was rescued with the help of two tourists from the U.K., one of whom was a lifeguard, according to the Chronicle.

The man was given immediate CPR and paramedic care and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Coast Guard officials searched the area to determine where the man came from or any sign of distress, but were unable to find anything.

In the wake of those incidents, as well as the Thursday rescue of 15 people whose fishing boat ran aground near the Golden Gate Bridge, the Coast Guard cautioned locals to exercise safety near the water, advising the use of life vests and recommending avoiding beaches that have rip currents or where lifeguards aren't stationed.
