A couple of months ago, we reported that Alpha Market, Abe Saba's 30-plus- year-old neighborhood staple at the corner of Parnassus and Cole, would be shutting down. The new incarnation of the space will be Luke's Local, the local food subscription and grocery service.
We stopped back in this week for an update, and Saba said that the store would officially close "probably by the end of the month."
People were still ordering sandwiches and shopping the aisles yesterday afternoon, but the store has stopped reordering stock, and is selling off its current inventory.
For neighbors, the imminent closure also means that the liquor in the store is discounted, including 50 percent off some wines and two-for-one deals on others.
