Now that Halloween decorations are coming down and pumpkins are piled in compost bins, the Inner Sunset is returning to time-tested traditions, like the monthly Park Station meeting, Kezar Triangle cleanup and volunteering opportunities on Mt. Sutro.

The week ahead offers multiple chances to get involved, have fun and discover something new about the neighborhood, so start filling up that calendar.

November 5: A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To San Francisco

For more than three decades, John Stanley covered entertainment for the Chronicle, where he interviewed more than 800 actors, comedians and performers. His work is now the basis for "The Funniest Comedy Icons of the 20th Century," a two-volume anthology that recaps his favorite interviews.

On Saturday night, SHARP (1736 9th Ave.) is hosting an evening with Stanley, who'll regale attendees with stories about comedy legends like Bob Hope, Milton Berle, Woody Allen, Lucille Ball, and many other heavyweights.

November 8: Park Station Community Meeting

On the second Tuesday of each month at 6pm, Capt. John Sanford, Jr. opens the community room at Park Station for a briefing where he shares news and statistics about law enforcement. If you have questions about how your community is policed, drop by for November's session before heading home to watch the election returns. (Here's a recap of last month's meeting, if you're interested in learning more about what will be discussed.)
