Between the cold weather, work, holiday shopping and related parties, there are plenty of reasons not to go out on a school night this week.
Undeterred, we went out and found nine good arguments for enjoying and exploring Oakland, including the fourth anniversary of The New Parkway Theater, a Ghost Ship memorial concert, and a Lake Merritt fun run for beer enthusiasts. Let's review:

Sending Love & Solidarity: Starline Social Club, 6 - 9pm tonight
At the end of each year, Critical Resistance Oakland, a local chapter of a national organization working to "end the Prison Industrial Complex," sends postcards to individuals in detention "to remind folks that they're not alone & that we're in the fight with them."
This year, CRO is raising $4,000 to send postcards to 5,000 prisoners; a portion of all bar sales will be donated to CRO's effort. Donations may also be made online.
The New Parkway Theater 4th Anniversary, Thursday - Friday
To mark its fourth year in its new(ish) location, The New Parkway Theater is offering film fans a special $4 admission, starting at noon on Thursday.
Throughout the day, the escapist thrill of going to the movies will be enhanced with "lots of interactive components," including chances to win an annual pass, "which grants its holder free admission to almost all non-sold-out screenings throughout 2017."
