A new Caribbean-inspired cafe has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The fresh addition to Lake View, called 11 Degrees North, is located at 824 W Belmont Ave. (between Clark St & Dayton St).
Billed as offering "Caribbean fusion with traditional American food," 11 Degrees North features a fresh, eclectic menu, ranging from arepas and bowls to smoothies, sandwiches and more.
For breakfast, check out a selection of egg sandwiches and bagels, plus the "fruity bowl" (acai smoothie, mango, banana, blueberry, pineapple, strawberry, raspberry, coconut flakes, cinnamon, granola and honey). Lunchtime brings more signature bowl options, including the healthy veggie bowl (hummus, kale, cucumbers, carrots, tomato, mango pico, avocado, portabella mushroom, with dill lime yogurt sauce), plus pulled pork sandwiches and a variety of arepas filled with everything from chorizo and eggs to shredded beef and fried plantains.
Wash it all down with a variety of smoothies, from the rich Nutella option (Banana, strawberry, nutella and almond milk) to the health-conscious Kale Pineapple smoothie; coffee and chai and matcha lattes are also on offer. (Check out the full menu here.)
The new juice bars and smoothy has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a five-star rating out of 23 reviews on Yelp.
Radha I., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 10th, said: "Stopped by here to get a bite when I noticed it was open. They had quite a few interesting sandwiches, Buddha bowls, and and smoothies on the menu."
Yelper Doug K. added: "Wandered in on my way home from the train and I'm SO glad I did. Housed in the former Dollop Coffee space on the north side of Belmont and they somehow made it feel bigger and brighter."
And Phillip V. said: "In town from LA and my brother ordered this for us while we nursed a hangover. The veggie bowl was AMAZING. Some of the best mushrooms I've ever had."
