A new Mexican spot has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The fresh addition to Lakeview, called Las Reinas, is located at 3001 N Ashland Ave. (between Wellington Ave & Nelson St).

Taking over for gastropub Beef & Barley, which closed last summer, Las Reinas specializes in street-style tacos, with options like roast chicken, carnitas, chorizo, and fried avocado. It also offers some classic Mexican appetizers like guacamole and quesadillas, and a large selection of beer and cocktails, including frozen pisco sours and sangria on draft.

The fresh arrival has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a 3.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp.

Jennifer C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on July 9th, said: "Las Reinas is a total revamp of the ill-fated Beef and Barley. I was skeptical of the restaurant's ability to transform from gastropub to Mexican cafe, but so far, I think the change is working."

And Georgina W. said: "The food was pretty good. There's not much of a selection and but a small menu isn't bad. My partner loved the fried avocado tacos. Both my partner and friends enjoyed their tacos."

With a price rating of two dollar signs on Yelp, you can estimate you'll spend $11-$30 per person on a visit to Las Reinas.

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Las Reinas is open weekdays from 5pm–2am, Saturday from 11am–3am, and Sunday from 11am–2am.
