A new Japanese spot has opened for business in the neighborhood. The newcomer to Highland Park, called RBTA, is located at 5629 1/2 N Figueroa St.
Open since early July, it's the newest addition for chef Justin Baey and David Tewasart of the restaurant group Sticky Rice, which is also behind popular LA spots like Birdie and Civil Coffee.
RBTA's main attraction are its grilled skewers, which feature a diverse selection of ingredients, from New York steak, to diver scallops, to prawns, miso black cod, mushrooms and more. In addition to skewers, there are appetizers, cold dishes, and rice and noodle dishes. Wash it all down with your choice of sake, beer, chu hai (a canned alcoholic drink from Japan), shochu, soda or tea.
RBTA has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a four-star rating out of five reviews on Yelp.
The S., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on July 14th, said: "Cool little space, great concept, like you are in a Japanese alleyway izakaya. Everything we had was delicious and the portions were great, and not the god dam hipster tiny food shit that prevails with new restaurants these days, which was comforting."
Yelper Steph S. added: “I live around the corner and was walking on the street a few days ago when I met the owner. Promised him I would come back and holy smokes am I ever glad I did."
And Allen L. said: "We came here to celebrate our anniversary and was not disappointed. This new restaurant is located right next to Highland Park Bowl. The menu consisted of a variety of appetizers, small plates, fried rice and grilled meats."
With a price rating of two dollar signs on Yelp, an outing to RBTA is estimated to cost $11-$30 per person.
RBTA is now open at 5629 1/2 N Figueroa St., so head on over to check it out.
