Craving pizza and beer? You're in luck: a new brewery and restaurant has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Located at 5215 S. Harper Ave. in Hyde Park, the new addition is called Jolly Pumpkin Pizzeria & Brewery.
Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales—a brewery with multiple locations in its home state of Michigan—recently opened its first Chicago outpost, with an onsite brewing system and a menu offering American-style pub fare.
The Chicago menu is still being tweaked, but expect to see items like burgers with cambozola cheese and cremini mushrooms, margherita pizza, fish tacos, mac and cheese, and more. (You can check out the menu for the Royal Oak location here to get an idea.)
A rotating selection of the brewery's sour beers is on offer as well, with options like Bam Bier farmhouse ale, Oro de Calabaza golden ale, and Calabaza Blanca white ale. (Check out the full list of brews here.)
Jolly Pumpkin has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a five-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp.
Kyle T., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on October 24th, said: "The beers are delicious. We munched on the truffle fries and the black bean burger. Both were FANTASTIC. The beer is brewed on-site in an old cemetery, I heard."
Yelper Mike B. added: “Such a great addition to the already great Hyde Park downtown area! Opening night was busy—with a good crowd, not too loud, and the taps were flowing with about 30 brews. Menu selection is good.”
And Samantha T. said: "Jolly Pumpkin has an interesting and eclectic menu, and even on their first-ever customer lunch service, they did a fantastic job. I look forward to seeing how they grow within the community."
Jolly Pumpkin Pizzeria & Brewery is now open at 5215 S Harper Ave., so swing on by to take a peek.
