'Kome Japanese Eatery' Makes Near South Side Debut, With Ramen And MorePhoto: Tamir C./Yelp

A new spot to score ramen and poke has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The newcomer to the Near South Side, called Kome Japanese Eatery, is located at 1303 S Michigan Ave. (between 13th St. & 14th St.).

This new spot specializes in a variety of Japanese comfort foods like ramen, robata or fire-grilled skewers, and sashimi.

On the starters menu, expect to see dishes like soba salad with grilled shrimp tossed in a miso vinaigrette, kome (rice) poke with tuna, salmon, or hamachi; and seaweed salad.

For hot dishes, look for agedashi tofu topped with katsuo (bonito flakes), karaage fried chicken, yakisoba noodles, grilled hamachi, tonkatsu with cabbage and rice, and a New York strip steak served with veggies. There's also tonkotsu ramen in a milky pork broth, and veggie ramen with baby bok choy with mushrooms and bamboo shoots.

Rounding things out are desserts like green tea and mochi ice cream.

Kome Japanese Eatery has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of 23 reviews on Yelp.

Karen C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on November 24th, said: "Found this place as we were looking for Japanese cuisine near Adler. Decided to try this place and we're so glad we did! We both had tonkotsu ramen and hot green tea."

Yelper Xuan M. added: “Stumbled upon this cute little place in the South Loop, since we live close by. The menu was very extensive, although small. It has several sections of Japanese cuisine, from cooked to raw."

And Jazz S. said: "This cute little place was busier than we expected on a Friday night! (Tip: you can make reservations ahead of time.) Food was good."

Head on over to check it out: Kome Japanese Eatery is open Monday–Thursday from 11am–9pm, Friday from 11am–10:30pm, Saturday from noon–10:30pm, and Sunday from noon–9pm.
