A new art gallery has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Located at 1201 W. Leland Ave. (between Magnolia Ave. & Malden St.) in Uptown, the new arrival is called Sustain.

"Sustain aims to foster expression, education, sustainability and growth through creative work," a statement on its website reads. "This intends to be a resource for our Uptown community, as well as women, queer and trans folks, people of color, the differently abled, and the up-and-coming artists that exist within those communities."

The space features visual artists from around the globe, wearable work from fashion designers, as well as books and graphic novels.

The business also runs a DIY cassette tape label in the space, called Niatsus (that's "sustain" spelled backwards). It offers limited edition, small-run batches of cassettes for bands, poets,  and other "noise makers." (You can check out some of the work available here.)

It's still early days for the fledgling business—it's got just one review on Yelp thus far.

Megan R., who was the first Yelper to review the new spot on December 1st, said: "This art gallery is beautiful! A lot of the work is too expensive for me because I'm a grad student, but they do have a large range of prices in the store. I've gotten a few plants from here."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Sustain is open daily from 1pm–8pm.
