A new international grocery, meat shop and deli has debuted in the neighborhood. The fresh arrival to West Town, called Tempesta Market, is located at 1372 W. Grand Ave.
This newcomer—which specializes in delicatessen fare, charcuterie, and craft sandwiches—comes from the father-and-son duo of Agostino and Tony Fiasche, who are also behind Nduja Artisans Salumeria.
In addition to offering a "pantry" with an array of artisan goods to take home, Tempesta features hearty Italian-style sandwiches. Look for "The Dante" with hot soppressata, mortadella, finnochinoa, hot coppa, porchetta, provolone, giardiniera, and ‘nduja aioli; "Beet Streets" with marinated beets, Marcona almonds, apple, sprouts, and pickled red onion on multigrain; and "The B. Franklin" with roasted turkey, cheddar, pickled fresno chilies, avocado, and pea shoots.
The meat and cheese boards change daily, so check back often. And if you're in a hurry, check out the "meat cone" with sliced cheese and crackers. (You can see the full menu here.)
Tempesta Market has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a five-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp.
Fawn S., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on December 11th, said: "A friend in Columbus, Ohio told us that we needed to seek out Tony and his new Tempesta Market when we visit Chicago, and so that is exactly what we did."
Yelper Jennifer S. added: “I love meats and cheeses so I knew I had to come here. I parked right outside and grabbed the meat cone and qx2 salad to go.”
And Alan D. said: "It starts with N'duja and ends with N'don't'ja because you're so full from eating very good cured meats and sandwiches. I'm so glad this place opened. It's a terrific Italian deli."
