You've heard of theater in the round, but have you heard of theater in the merry-go-round? New play "An Illegal Start" is about "unlikely friendship borne between two young men who find refuge in a defunct rural amusement park after surviving a near-tragic accident. Their journey through subsequent years is an exploration of the bond between close friends and all of the joy, fear, jealousy, pain and profound meaning that comes with it." And yes, it's all staged in the carousel on the Santa Monica Pier.

The date: Friday 3/30-Saturday 3/31, 8-10pm
The location: Santa Monica Pier Merry Go-Round Building, 200 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica
The price: $30 for general admission, $24 for students and seniors

Hauser & Wirth's new exhibition 'Geta Brătescu: The Leaps of Aesop' is "the first Los Angeles solo presentation devoted to the 92-year-old forerunner in the field of Romanian Conceptualism. Her diverse oeuvre—comprising drawing, collage, engraving, textiles, and photography, as well as experimental film, video, and performance—mines themes of identity, gender, and dematerialization, often drawing from the stories of literary figures and addressing the symbiotic relationship between art making and working environments." UCSB professor Sven Spieker will lead a lecture about Brătescu's work and legacy, alongside a showing of her art.

The date: Saturday 3/31, 2-3pm
