A new Italian-inspired eatery has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called The Charles, the fresh arrival is located at 1632 Market Center Blvd. in the Design District.
Chef J Chastain, whose resume includes Stephan Pyles and the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, is well known in "foodie circles" as a star chef, Culturemap Dallas reports.
The restaurant, with Chastain at the helm, will feature a wood-fired grill and housemade pasta, with menu items ranging from fresh crudo to beef tartare and salsa bianca to the signature cappelloni with white ragu — ground veal and pork stuffed into hat-shaped pasta.
A wine list of almost 100 bottles (primarily Italian) will be available, along with some noteworthy offerings by the glass.
The Charles has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of five reviews on Yelp.
Angela C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 6, said, "Amazing experience. The food was amazing, incredible ambience, and the most phenomenal service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. Bravo!"
"Wonderful experience from start to finish," added Yelper Shakir E. "Chaz and his team really went above and beyond to make wifey's birthday special. From the food to the decor to the service to the cocktails — everything was top notch. Will definitely be back! Well done.”
And Yelper Courtney D. said, "Beautifully done — traditional Italian, mixed with a modern touch that has an edge!"
