Drawing inspiration from Italian and Jewish delis, Frunchroom has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The new casual cafe offering breakfast and brunch is located at 4042 N. Milwaukee Ave. (near Cuyler Avenue) in Portage Park.
Helmed by chef Matt Saccaro, the small counter-service spot features house-made charcuterie, smoked meats, fresh pastas, soups, sandwiches and breakfast fare. Saccaro tells Eater Chicago that he wants Frunchroom — taken from Chicago lingo for "front room" of a house — to be a welcoming, comfortable space.
On the menu, offerings include a bacon, egg and gorgonzola sandwich, feta and cucumber with marinated zucchini, smoked pork ribs with fries and matzo ball soup with smoked chicken and peppers.
The new arrival has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a five-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp.
Susan F., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on April 25, said, "Frunchroom is a small, inventive deli concept open for breakfast and lunch only. Their foods have bold flavors and most everything is made in-house. You need to order at the counter before being seated and it doesn't have many tables so don't be surprised by this."
And Rick F. said, "Very small but quaint atmosphere. Everyone was very helpful and answered a few questions to help me narrow down my selections."
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Frunchroom is open from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. (It's closed on Monday.)
