There's a brand-new bar in Deep Ellum, at 2653 Commerce St.
Called Ruins, it's brought to you by the creators of area cocktail bar Armoury D.E., and as Eater Dallas reports, it specializes in Mexican and South American food, agave and rum.
Chef and part-owner Abram Vargas delivers an extensive menu with traditional taco options such as barbacoa, pastor and crispy chicken tinga. Tapas-style offerings include fried pork shanks, black bean and masa cakes, as well as red snapper and shrimp.
Thirsty? With over 30 beers, a large collection of agave and rum, and an assortment of hand-crafted cocktails, your thirst will soon be quenched.
The fresh addition has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a five-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp.
Shelby B., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 5, said, "I just came back from Mexico. It's Cinco de Mayo. I need real tacos. Ruins did not disappoint."
“3 words. You, Brown, You," added Yelper Tommy C. "Such a great cocktail. Normally a straight whiskey or old fashioned drinker, and this drink is perfect for my sipping style. Had the full gambit of delicious street tacos here and it was delicious!”
And Ricky C. said, "What a fantastic addition to the Deep Ellum area. We stopped in after a long day and were greeted by a welcoming and warm staff with a wealth of information. Food was delicious and on point while we sipped through different mezcals. They have a ton of mezcal and a variety of spirits. We will definitely be back again very soon!"
Head on over to check it out: Ruins is open from 11–2 a.m. daily.
