Looking to chow down on some vegan fare? A new spot has you covered. Called Sweet Soulfood, the newcomer is located at 1016 N. Broad St., in Treme-Lafitte.
Vegan cuisine takes on exciting new flavors at the city's newest eatery, Sweet Soulfood. From smoothies to salads, the restaurant offers a multitude of options. On the menu you can expect to find bread pudding, sweet potatoes and pecan praline ice cream at a reasonable price.
With a five-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp so far, Sweet Soulfood seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
Jessica R., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on April 21, said, "The one thing the other reviews left out was the bread pudding! I'm not one for soggy bread dishes so I usually pass. But, the bread pudding is the second most popular discussion on the restaurant's Facebook page, so I had to try it. It wasn't too sweet, and it wasn't too soggy."
“All of the food was amazing! It was so great and flavorful," added Yelper Teneha B. "Often, removing ingredients from foods you've been eating all your life results in getting used to a new taste. But, that wasn't the case here. The okra was robust and tasted of all things creole; thankfully it lacked that acidic tomato taste. The sweet potatoes tasted like my granny's.”
And Jenna E. said, "This place is so good. Everyone was super nice and the food was delicious! We had vegetable curry, mac and cheese, cornbread, gumbo, sweet potatoes, stuffed pepper, and the bread pudding; which was so good we got a second order for later. Definitely a must-visit."
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Sweet Soulfood is open from 11 a.m.–7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m.–8 p.m. on Saturday. (It's closed on Sunday.)
