The Mockingbird Diner

3130 W. Mockingbird Lane, Northwest Dallas

The Mockingbird Diner is a traditional American spot bringing classic diner staples to Northwest Dallas.

Jack Perkins, the chef behind Maple & Motor, is at the helm of this new endeavor with fellow chef Jeana Johnson at his side, D Magazine reports. Johnson has made "plenty of waves" in the city's dining scene with Good 2 Go Taco and Mot Hai Ba, an East Dallas Vietnamese spot.

On the menu, look for comfort food staples such as beef tips over rice, chicken fried steak with country gravy and hot Texas chili with onion, cheddar and sour cream. (Check out the lunch/dinner menu here.)

Ending promptly at 11 a.m., breakfast fare includes an assortment of fresh-baked pastries such as cinnamon rolls, glazed old-fashioned doughnuts, chocolate croissants and more. For a heartier meal, try the bone-in ham steak with red eye gravy served with two eggs and your choice of sides. (See the breakfast menu here.)

With a four-star Yelp rating out of 102 reviews on Yelp, The Mockingbird Diner has been getting positive attention.

Yelper Penny M., who visited The Mockingbird Diner on May 7, wrote: "Second visit to MD. Beef Tips and rice were excellent. Beef was tender and the creamed spinach was good too. My favorite vegetable so far though is the green beans. They're cooked with bacon and cut tomatoes. Excellent flavor."

Jon S. noted: "The building is the most unique thing about this place. It's a pretty cool modern-style diner."

The Mockingbird Diner is open from 7 a.m.–10 p.m. daily.

Dallas Grilled Cheese Co

Dallas Grilled Cheese Co is a new spot to score grilled cheese and more in Upper Greenville.

The new spot follows the same menu as its Bishop Arts predecessor, with a selection of — you guessed it — grilled cheese sandwiches, plus bacon-pineapple lollipops, bacon mac 'n' cheese, wings, and grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Soups and salads are also on offer, and shakes, floats, and dessert options round out the sweeter side of the menu. (See the full menu here.)

Yelp users are excited about Dallas Grilled Cheese Co, which currently holds 4.5 stars out of 64 reviews on the site.

Minjoo K., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on January 12th, said, "Hurray! I finally have a place to go when I'm craving some good grilled cheese and tomato soup!"

Yelper Brooke P. added: “Absolutely delicious! Love that they have Bishop Cider on tap and the grilled cheeses were perfectly done. Our favorite that we tried was The Rustic — simple and the right blend of cheeses."

Dallas Grilled Cheese Co is open from 11 a.m.–10 p.m. daily.
