Topping the list is June's Cafe. Located at 921 V St. downtown, the Japanese- and Hawaiian-inflected American eatery is the highest rated diner in Sacramento, boasting 4.5 stars out of 102 reviews on Yelp.

In addition to its hamburgers and grilled cheese, Yelpers praise the mom-and-pop shop for its fusion breakfast and lunch fare, like the popular Loco Moco (white rice topped with a hamburger patty, a fried egg and brown gravy), and the pork or chicken katsu over rice. Diners, be aware: June's is cash only.

2. Vic's Ice Cream

While longtime Land Park fixture Vic's Ice Cream is most known for its popular ice cream and desserts, it also serves hot dogs, sandwiches and salads. With four stars out of 329 reviews on Yelp, it has proven to be a local favorite.

Head to 3199 Riverside Blvd. to enjoy a BLT, Reuben or chipotle garden burger on white, wheat, sourdough or rye bread, along with a milkshake featuring one of the seasonal summer flavors like boysenberry or fresh peach.

3. Marketplace Café

Marketplace Café, located at 1651 Arden Way inside the Arden Fair Mall's Nordstrom department store, is a top choice for more upscale diner fare. (There is also outdoor seating.) Yelpers give the New American joint four stars out of 160 reviews for its sandwiches, salads, pizza and pasta.

On the menu, look for the tomato and basil soup and the prosciutto and fresh mozzarella ciabatta sandwich with spicy giardiniera (Italian pickled relish). Yelpers recommend the lemon ricotta cookie for dessert.
