Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top seafood hot spots in Minneapolis, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to meet your needs.

1. The Capital Grille

Topping the list is The Capital Grille. Located at 801 Hennepin Ave. downtown, the steakhouse and wine bar is the highest rated seafood restaurant in Minneapolis, boasting 4.5 stars out of 269 reviews on Yelp.

With more than 35 locations across the U.S., this high-end haunt offers jumbo lump crab cocktails with housemade mustard sauce; sweet corn bisque with crème fraîche; sushi-grade seared tuna with sesame and gingered rice; roasted swordfish with lump crab gratin; and broiled Maine lobster. 

2. Smack Shack

Next up is the North Loop's Smack Shack. After starting out as a food truck in 2010, the now stationary American spot, serving lobster rolls and more, is situated at 603 N. Washington Ave. With four stars out of 751 reviews on Yelp, the business has proven to be a local favorite.

Look for diver scallops with smoked corn and oyster mushrooms; shrimp and grits with andouille sausage and a toasted baguette; shrimp-and-lobster-stuffed salmon with wild rice and lobster cream sauce; steamed mussels in coconut curry; and lobster poutine with Cajun fries and Taleggio gravy. 

3. Zelo

Downtown's Zelo, located at 831 Nicollet Mall, is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the Italian and traditional American spot, which offers seafood and more, four stars out of 703 reviews.

Zelo offers classic Italian fare like housemade ravioli, linguini primavera and lasagna, along with seafood dishes like wood-grilled ahi tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes and Chinese mustard vinaigrette; pesto-crusted sea bass with Thai chili beurre blanc and crispy onions; and herb-grilled organic salmon with roasted heirloom potatoes and lemon-thyme sauce. 

4. Sea Salt Eatery

Sea Salt Eatery serves up seafood, tacos and burgers in Hiawatha. The popular restaurant boasts four stars out of 555 Yelp reviews. Head over to 4825 Minnehaha Ave. to try it for yourself.

"I can't speak highly enough of the food at Sea Salt," Yelper Kareem I. said. "My favorite appetizers are the calamari and the clam fries. They offer lots of seafood options on top of tacos, in a sandwich or as a po'boy. The bay scallop tacos are to die for, and the New England clam chowder is really tasty too."

5. PinKU Japanese Street Food

Last but not least, check out PinKU Japanese Street Food in northeast Minneapolis, which has earned 4.5 stars out of 163 reviews on Yelp. You can find the sushi bar and Japanese spot at 20 University Ave. NE.
