Hungry? A new neighborhood Mexican spot has you covered. The fresh addition to Lynnhurst, called El Jefe Cocina & Bar, is taking over the space previously held by Saguaro at 5309 Lyndale Ave. S.
El Jefe's new brick-and-mortar location is an extension of its food truck. The brains behind the operation, chef Miguel Urrutia, moved to Los Angeles when he was 16-years-old and later helped open the Rainforest Cafe in the Mall of America.
Expect traditional Mexican fare such as tacos, nachos, taquitos and burritos. Try out the breakfast burrito (scrambled eggs, hash browns, cheddar cheese and chorizo inside a large flour tortilla), the camarones enchilados (sauteed jumbo shrimp in a spicy garlic butter sauce with cilantro-lime rice) and more. (Check out the full menus here.)
El Jefe Cocina & Bar has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a four-star rating out of 11 reviews on Yelp.
Josh J., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 25, said, "Was able to enjoy lunch with a vendor in the building and grab lunch afterward. Spicy margarita was wonderfully well done. Props to Trevor on the great preparation and hospitality."
Yelper Carolyn D. added, “Everything was excellent! Abby took great care of us and the food was to die for! A full bar makes this a perfect neighborhood hotspot and I can't wait to come back! Yum!!"
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. El Jefe Cocina & Bar is open from 3–10 p.m. on Monday, 11 a.m.–10 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, and 11 a.m.–11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
