A new cocktail bar, offering tacos and more, has opened up shop in the neighborhood. The new arrival, called Barrio, is located at 319 Vaughan St.
Born in Cleveland, this taco spot has now debuted a second location in Portsmouth, where it's dishing up build-your-own tortilla creations with shrimp, steak, chorizo, Thai chili tofu and a host of toppings. There's also a selection of preset options like the camarone agrietado, with jalapeno-lime shrimp, rice, cabbage slaw and "crack sauce."
On the drink menu, there are plenty of margaritas like the Jade Olmec, with Espolon reposado tequila, lime, mint and soda, as well as some bourbon-based concoctions and a large selection of tequila, mezcal, bourbon and Scotch by the glass.
Barri has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a five-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp.
Noah R., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 25, wrote, "Impressed by the hospitality, atmosphere and quality of the food all while at a great price point. They were packed on a Monday evening, and I can see why."
And Molly B. wrote, "This place is great and unlike anything else in the area! We stopped by today while driving from a weekend in Kennebunkport home to Boston. The margaritas are awesome (and I'm picky!)"
