Topping the list is Atomic Burger. Located at 3934 Veterans Blvd., this fast-food joint is the highest-rated burger spot in Metairie, boasting four stars out of 221 reviews on Yelp.

It's not a complicated menu: beef, turkey or portobello burgers, french fries or edamame, and drinks. But the details count. Burgers can be topped with house-roasted poblano peppers or bacon-onion jam. Fries can be dipped in Sriracha mayonnaise, roasted garlic aioli or spicy ketchup. Not to be outdone, the shakes are chilled with liquid nitrogen.

2. Po-Boy King

Next up is Po-Boy King, situated at 805 Homestead Ave. This small sandwich outlet takes its burgers seriously. Specialties include burgers topped with blue cheese; jalapeño peppers, salsa and pepper jack; and onion rings and Jack Daniel's barbecue sauce.

Round out your meal with sides like crinkle-cut fries, jalapeño poppers or shrimp spring rolls. A wide variety of po'boys are also on the menu. With 4.5 stars out of 55 reviews on Yelp, the spot has proven to be a local favorite.

Offerings include an Angus beef patty on a potato or multigrain bun, topped with veggies (pickle, lettuce, onion, green chiles) and one of several sauces, including ketchup and spicy ranch. There are outlets of this chain around the U.S. and internationally. Head over to 4100 Veterans Blvd. to see this one for yourself.

4. Tic-Toc Cafe

Check out Tic-Toc Cafe, which has earned four stars out of 97 reviews on Yelp. They have an "around the clock" special that doles out a burger, fries and Coke for $6.99.

Try the cheeseburger, mushroom burger or patty melt. The rest of the menu consists of classic diner fare like omelets, hash browns, chicken fried steak and salads. You can find it at 3205 36th St.
