Mama Tried
215 Henry St.

Mama Tried is a country-themed bar and traditional American spot with live music, DJs and events. The bar has 24 beers on tap.
Yelpers are excited about Mama Tried, which currently holds four stars out of four reviews on the site.
Yelper Lauren V., who reviewed it on July 7, wrote, "Great addition to Deep Ellum! There's a huge patio out back that I can't wait to take advantage of when the weather cools and a large indoor area with the all-important chilly AC for these ridiculously hot summer days."
Mitchy M. noted, "Good neighborhood place. Vintage country music DJs. Don't sleep on the kitchen menu. Another large patio in Deep Ellum."
Mama Tried is open from 4 p.m.–2 a.m. Monday-Thursday, 3 p.m.–2 a.m. on Friday, and 1 p.m.–2 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Izkina
2801 Elm St.

Izkina is a tapas and cocktail bar located in the new Deep Ellum Hostel.
Serving up Spanish-influenced tapas and cocktails, you'll find tapas like the albondegas (meatballs, sofrito and herbs), pescaditos (fried anchovies, spicy aioli and lemon), meat and cheese boards (served with house pickles, tomato jam, mustard and bread), various quesos, Spanish tinned fish and more. Drinks include the Señora Asesin (Absolut Elyx, strawberry shrub, lemon and cava), the Melódica (Spanish brandy, Priorat vermut, maraschino and lemon oil) and the Rosado Sangria (Grenache rose, sherry, agave and pineapple). It also has beers and wines.
Izkina has received one five-star rating on Yelp thus far.
Yelper Delilah C., who was the first to review the new spot on July 21, wrote, "From the lights, to the seating, to the bar and the walls, everything was so clean and crisp. Just beautifully simple. ... I asked [the bartender] which drink was his favorite and he made me the Señora Asesin. It was perfectly crafted!"

Ruins
2653 Commerce St.

Ruins is a bar and eatery with Mexican and South American dishes.
On the menu, you'll see choices like the Lengua de Cordero taco (slow-cooked lamb tongue with lime and chile sauce), the El Rey Milanesa torta (beef rib-eye breaded and fried, with refried beans, shredded lettuce, tomato, avocado, onion, Oaxacan cheese and pickled jalapeño) and the Pipian Rojo platter (mole of dried peppers, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and dry spices served over a chicken thigh with smoked poblano and nopal rice).
The bar serves cocktails, with a focus on agave and rum, plus beer. House cocktails include the Bocado Caliente (La Caravedo Pisco, pineapple, lime, avocado, chile agave and Tajin) and the Maria Sangrienta (tequila or mezcal, Bloody Mary mix and grasshoppers).
Ruins is off to a strong start with 4.5 stars out of 30 reviews on Yelp.
Diana M., who reviewed it on May 18, said, "New favorite place. Seriously. This place is the bomb. My little Mexican heart is so happy. This is authentic Mexican food. And not even general Mexican food. This is very much regional."
Krystell C. added, "Great food, strong and phenomenal drinks, colorful decor and the menu selections are both funny and diverse."

Alice Dallas

Alice Dallas is a cocktail bar and pan-Asian spot.
On the menu, expect to see options like the pork meatballs (with ponzu and sesame seeds), the chicken yakitori (with soy-sake glaze and scallions), tuna tartare (with lemon aioli, crispy taro and nori) and pork ribs with house barbecue sauce.
Alice Dallas' current rating of 4.5 stars out of 36 reviews on Yelp indicates positive feedback from diners.
Bethany F., who reviewed it on March 24, wrote, "This place is cozy, quaint and has nice vibes. The menu is simplistic but the food is anything but. The food is served tapas-style and comes out pretty quickly, so you are never waiting too long between dishes."
Ethan M. noted, "Food was excellent. No complaints there. Service was quite good. But it has so few tables that the wait is inevitably long. Especially for a place that wants to be cool."
Alice Dallas is open from 5:30–11 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, 5:30 p.m.–midnight on Thursday, and 5:30 p.m.–2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. (It's closed on Monday and Sunday.)
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema
6770 Abrams Road

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is a dine-in cinema with eight screens and reserved recliner seating. This is the national chain's fifth location in the Metroplex, with two more coming soon. Though you can eat in the theater itself, you can also try the attached restaurant, Vetted Well.
The in-house menu includes options like bottomless popcorn, baked pretzels, movie candies, pizzas, hot dogs, burgers and more. It also serves cocktails and boilermakers. (You can see menus, plus showtimes, here.)
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's current Yelp rating of 3.5 stars out of 45 reviews indicates the newcomer is finding its way, but it's still early days.
Toya H., who reviewed it on July 11, said, "Love seeing movies at this location! Service is on point, food is amazing and they always have great preview clips that relate to the movie you are going to see. I highly recommend this location!"
Yelper Jason O. wrote, "I really enjoyed the movie experience at the Lake Highlands location and the staff was very friendly. My favorite part is the seating. The seats were so comfy (like being at home) and the reclining option made me feel so comfortable. The tables were great as well."
