Here are some notable incidents that have taken place since our last biweekly recap covering SFPD's Central District, which encompasses Chinatown, Financial District, Embarcadero, Russian, Telegraph and Nob Hills, North Beach, and Union Square. 

Unless otherwise noted, all reports are drawn from the department's daily summary.

SFPD seeks public's help locating hit-and-run vehicle

Police are asking for assistance locating a gold Honda Civic four-door sedan that's alleged to have been involved in a hit-and-run on June 27. 

Kevin Manning, a pedicab driver who was struck in the incident, succumbed to his injuries last week at San Francisco General Hospital. The hit-and-run occurred on the Embarcadero near Sansome Street. Our full report can be read here

Victim in life-threatening condition after being robbed

A 50-year-old man is in life-threatening condition after being robbed on July 15 at 6:20 a.m. near Second and Market Streets in the Financial District. 

According to police, the victim has no fixed address and was asleep on the sidewalk when he was attacked by an unknown suspect, resulting in a deep cut to his head. The victim's bicycle was stolen in the incident and he was transported to an area hospital for treatment. 

Man found with stab wounds during welfare check

On July 15 just before 8 p.m. near the corner of Clay Street and Waverly Place in Chinatown, a houseless 42-year-old man was found with two stab wounds in his back. According to reports, officers were conducting a welfare check which led to the discovery of his injuries.

The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment in non-life-threatening condition. No further information was available. 

Suspects steal man's phone after assault

On July 11 at 7:35 p.m. on the 100 block of the Embarcadero, two suspects, a man in his twenties and other man in his mid-forties, robbed a 49-year-old man.

According to police reports, the victim was sitting in the area when the younger suspect approached and snatched his mobile phone. As the victim gave chase in an attempt to retrieve his phone, the second suspect punched him in the face. Both suspects fled the scene southbound on Drumm Street. 

The victim complained of a swollen eye after the incident, but was not transported for treatment. 

Four robbed at gunpoint 

Three unknown male suspects robbed four victims at gunpoint July 8 at 11 p.m. near the intersection of Grant and Pacific Avenues in Chinatown. 

The suspects approached the victims, a 33-year-old man, and three women ages 28, 31, and 29. After one of the suspects brandished a gun and demanded the victims' property, the suspects stole wallets, a camera and camera lenses before getting in a car and fleeing in an unknown direction. 

No injuries were reported in the incident. 

Pedestrian hit by car while crossing street

A 52-year-old woman was struck by a car while crossing the street at North Point and Stockton Streets in North Beach July 8 at 7:27 p.m.

According to reports, a 31-year-old female driver made a turn while the victim was crossing the street and made contact with the victim, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The driver remained at the scene and was cited by police. 

Woman robbed, pepper-sprayed

Near the corner of Sutter and Sansome Streets on July 7 at 1:45 p.m., a 45-year-old woman was robbed by a man in his early twenties while attending a protest. 

The suspect approached the victim and took her hat and glasses, according to police. The victim responded by pepper-spraying the suspect, who in turn, snatched it from her and sprayed her as well. The suspect then fled into the crowd of protesters with the stolen items. 

The victim was treated at the scene for her injuries and released. 

Two teens steal man's backpack

On the 900 block of Columbus Avenue in North Beach on July 2 at 10 p.m., a 56-year-old man was robbed by two girls approximately 16 years old. 

The victim was walking when the duo approached him from behind and snatched his backpack before fleeing the scene. 

While the victim was not injured, his backpack, which contained a tablet, was not recovered. No arrests have been made. 

Two teens arrested for robbery

On July 2 at 11:20 p.m. near the intersection of Market and Spear Streets in the Financial District, two teenaged boys were arrested for robbery. 

According to police, a 28-year-old woman was walking when the two youths, ages 13 and 14, pushed her to the ground and stole her cellphone and wallet. 

Police officers in the area, however, located the suspects and took them into custody. No injuries were reported in the incident. 

Suspect arrested for setting door on fire

A 55-year-old man was arrested for starting a fire on July 1 at 11:37 a.m. near Stockton and Clay Streets in Chinatown. 

The suspect entered an building and set an interior door on fire. The building's sprinkler system subsequently extinguished the fire. When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect was founding hiding inside and was taken into custody. 

No injuries were reported, however the building's interior was damaged in the incident. 

Unknown suspect lights fire outside library

Another fire was reported on June 29 at 9:15 p.m. on the 800 block of Columbus Avenue in North Beach. 

An unknown suspect allegedly lit a bottle on fire and placed it in front of the public library. Though the fire department responded to the incident, the fire was out by the time they arrived. 

No arrests have been made.
