Oakland weekend: First Fridays, jam-making class, walking tours, morePhoto: Oakland Zoo/Facebook

The first weekend of July may not bring scorching temperatures to Oakland, but the events schedule is red-hot.

Tonight's monthly party in the KONO district includes First Fridays Art of DIY, where families and friends can gather to listen to music, eat, shop and browse items made by local makers. Oakland Museum of California is open late for visitors interested in browsing exhibits after they've stopped by a food truck for a meal on the go.

Saturday's Taste of Oakland benefits Youth Aid Non Profit and celebrates local culture, technology and music with an all-day festival in Jack London Square. A Grand Lake cultural cuisine food tour will explore several area eateries, and Rose's Taproom celebrates its first anniversary

On Sunday, head over the Westminster Amphitheater for Oklahoma!, the iconic musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein, take a jam-making class, or visit Mountain View Cemetery for a walking tour that revisits some of California's most notable people.

Here are some additional events happening around Oakland over the next few days:

Friday, July 6

Saturday, July 7

Sunday, July 8
