Buck's Whiskey & Burger Bar is a casual new spot located at 62 Green St. in the historic Canal District that's serving up booze and bites.

The list of whiskeys, scotches, bourbons and ryes runs to some 40 varieties, plus there are 10 mostly craft beers on tap, like Collective Arts' Radio the Mothership IPA.

The menu showcases Southwestern cuisine like beefsteak chili, Cajun haddock, marinated steak tips and tacos. There's also a long list of burgers; don't miss the Stuffed Buck, which is infused with bacon and blue cheese and topped with arugula and whiskey caramelized onions.

Head over to 64 Water St. and you'll find Maddi's Cookery & Taphouse, a bar and New American eatery. Located in a red brick-walled industrial space with an outdoor patio, the food is made from scratch from locally sourced ingredients.

It has a rotating selection of 20 craft beers on tap behind the concrete bar. The food menu has both quintessentially American items — rib-eye, four-cheese grilled cheese sandwich, chicken and waffles — and internationally inflected dishes. Consider the banh mi bao buns (braised chicken with pickled veggies, cucumber, radish, herbs and chili-garlic aioli) and a Cuban sandwich on a pretzel roll.

The menu includes sandwiches like the Cajun salmon burger and pulled pork with barbecue sauce. Entrees include blackened swordfish, chicken pesto pasta and a chimichurri steak. Beer, wine and cocktails are also available.

Finally, there's Grill 352 & Kabab, a new halal spot at 352 Shrewsbury St. The counter-order restaurant specializes in meat-heavy fare like beef or chicken kafta kebab on pita bread; lamb tikka kebab; gyros and more. There are also burgers, wings, fried fish and other American favorites. With five stars out of six reviews on Yelp, it's off to a strong start.

"This will be my new go-to for a delicious dinner that offers healthier options with a price that you can't beat!" wrote Yelper Tatiana F. "The chicken gyro was very tasty, and my dish was prepared quickly within 10 minutes. Everything was super fresh."
