Sama Confections

New to 279 Newbury St. in Back Bay is Sama Confections, a New England-based business that makes and distributes desserts in a jar, including crème brûlée, coconut panna cotta and matcha mousse. This cafe is an outlet for those desserts, as well as for artisanal coffees from Africa, South America and Asia.
Kala Thai Cookery

Now open at 51 Hanover St. in Haymarket is Kala Thai Cookery. It offers mostly classic Thai dishes like tom yum soup, panang curry and pad thai. There's also pop piah, a Chinese egg roll in a rice flour wrapper, and a pineapple curry with carrots and tomatoes. For dessert, look for the house-made ice cream of the day.
Chickadee

A new addition to Seaport, Chickadee is a New American and Mediterranean spot that's located at 21 Drydock Ave. The seasonal menu reflects the availability of local seafood and produce. Recent starters have included smoked sea trout dip, crab gratin and spiced lamb tartare with tzatziki, and vegetable dishes like fried cauliflower and heirloom melons. Mains include numerous pasta dishes, plus grilled sea bass and a dry-aged sirloin with fattoush, black plum, halloumi and tomatillo.
Rhythm 'N Wraps

A new addition to Allston, Rhythm 'N Wraps is a vegetarian food truck-turned-restaurant that's located at 1096 Commonwealth Ave. Owner Aaron Cohen is a former hip-hop music producer, who told Wicked Local Brookline that music would be an essential part of the atmosphere at the new brick-and-mortar spot. His team is serving up vegan pizzas, wraps and tacos, as well as entrees such as Sichuan "beef" and broccoli made with seitan and tofu.
The Bowery Bar

Finally, The Bowery Bar is a New American spot that opened recently at 2261 Dorchester Ave. in South Dorchester. The large patio is its most prominent characteristic. There and in its eclectic interior space it serves an upscale-casual menu of burgers, salads and seafood like raw oysters and pan-roasted salmon. Cocktails run to the tropical, like the one with smoked rum, dry Curacao, pineapple, orgeat, lime and tiki bitters.
