A new traditional American spot has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called All Square, the new addition is located at 4047 Minnehaha Ave. in Hiawatha.
All Square is a civil rights social enterprise centered on a craft grilled cheese restaurant and professional development institute, per its website. Its goal is to ensure that formerly incarcerated individuals have the financial support and social capital necessary for a bright and productive future.
On the menu, expect 10 types of grilled cheese sandwiches. Check out the Charcuterie, made with spreadable brie, onion jam, prosciutto and crushed almonds. Or, sample the Hawaiian, made with spam, pineapple jam, Korean barbecue sauce, smoked provolone and white American cheese. (Find the full menu here.)
Fries, tomato soup, beer and wine are also available. Vegan or gluten-free? Make your dietary needs known and the restaurant will accommodate.
With a 3.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp so far, the newcomer is getting solid feedback from clientele.
Katie L., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on September 9, wrote, "Really awesome menu, fast customer service, clean restaurant and stellar company vision and mission. We will be back because we support the concept. Pricing is too high though."
And Korina B. wrote, "I attended All Square's grand opening yesterday and I was so very impressed with their grilled cheese sandwiches! I really enjoyed the jalapeño/cheese and the brie/apple/pecan sandwich!"
