Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top places to visit in Cumming, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of neighborhood businesses. Read on for the results.

1. Tacos and Tequilas

Topping the list is Tex-Mex spot Tacos and Tequilas, which offers tacos, fajitas and more. Located at 2155 Market Place Blvd., it's the highest rated business in the Cumming, boasting four stars out of 218 reviews on Yelp.

The menu has dishes like carne asada (grilled steak) on a bed of onions and bell peppers, served with Mexican rice, beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole and sour cream; pork tip fajitas with mushrooms and cheese; and the Mexican cheeseburger topped with lettuce, avocado, jalapeños, bacon, cheddar and tomato. Yelper Valentino M., who reviewed it on July 29, wrote, "Great food, great service, great restaurant; can't ask for more and I will definitely come back to this spot. Steak fajitas and fried mushrooms are the bomb! The chips starter is super good. And their dessert flan is off the chain. Awesome on everything!"

2. La Zacatecana

Next up is Mexican spot La Zacatecana, situated at 104 Pirkle Ferry Road. With five stars out of 27 reviews on Yelp, it's proven to be a local favorite.

The menu includes the steak burrito filled with rice, beans, lettuce, sour cream, onions and peppers; the chicken sopes, a thick corn tortilla topped with beans, lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes and cheese; and the marinated pork torta. It also serves tacos, nachos and salads.

Yelper Helen O. said, "Real authentic Mexican food. Connected to a supermarket, it's nothing fancy, but super clean. Delicious and very affordable food. So many options your head will spin! We had the chicken quesadilla — chicken was seasoned and delicious."

3. Australian Bakery Cafe

Australian Bakery Cafe is another top choice. Yelpers give the business, located at 101 Colony Park Drive, 4.5 stars out of 64 reviews. The Australian spot serves baked goods, breakfast dishes and more.

Notable menu items include its Aussie Meat Pies, including the Australia's Original Pie (beef cooked in seasoned gravy and baked into a flaky pastry); the Ned Kelly Pie with sirloin steak and gravy, topped with egg, bacon and cheddar; and the Outback Pepperjack Chicken Pie with special sauce. Yelp reviewer John H. wrote, "Stopped in to have breakfast, the meat pies are awesome. The hash browns are amazing, crispy with some sort of delicious seasoning. Also got an apple dessert and a custard dessert, both fantastic. Staff was super friendly."

4. Tam's Backstage

Check out Tam's Backstage, which has earned four stars out of 122 reviews on Yelp. You can find the wine bar and New American spot at 215 Ingram Ave. It's located in the historic 1927 Cumming Schoolhouse, sharing the space with the community theater, The Cumming Playhouse, hence the "backstage" portion of the name.

On the menu, you'll see dishes such as Brian's Chicken, which is marinated and grilled and topped with Caprino cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, basil and lemon butter sauce; Broadway Pasta, a penne dish with grilled chicken, fresh mushrooms, asparagus and sun-dried tomatoes tossed with Alfredo sauce; and the almond-encrusted trout with Romano cheese and Italian herbs.

Yelper Rachel B. wrote, "We have always had great food and amazing service. They also have some great wine deals on certain days of the week. My typical order is usually steak and potatoes and it's great. I've tried other items as well and they're just as good."

5. Carniceria Hernandez

And then there's Carniceria Hernandez, a local favorite with 4.5 stars out of 41 reviews. Stop by 310 Veterans Memorial Blvd. to hit up the Mexican spot next time you're in the neighborhood. 

The menu offers lunch platters, like the flautas, fajitas or carne asada, seafood plates, such as the shrimp cocktail or fish stew, tacos and more. You can also grab breakfast, which comes with coffee and either bread or tortillas. 

Gigi D., who reviewed it on March 25, said, "Small hole-in-the-wall type restaurant inside of a Hispanic grocery store. Cheap tacos, generous portions and handmade tortillas. Tastes like my mom's authentic Mexican food."
