A new spot to score ice cream has opened for business in the neighborhood. The new addition to Cambridge's Central Square, called New City Microcreamery, is located at 411 Massachusetts Ave.

It's the first expansion of the ice cream company from its Hudson headquarters, where customers can watch the liquid nitrogen-based production process. This new Cambridge outlet serves up classic flavors like strawberry and mint chip, alongside New City's original creations like tarragon, vanilla bourbon and vegan chocolate avocado. You can top it off with hot fudge, candied walnuts and graham crackers.

The shop also has a menu of breakfast sandwiches that range from the traditional egg, bacon and cheese served on house-made sourdough, to one with duck confit, egg, brie and caramelized onions.

New City Microcreamery has gotten good reviews thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of 12 reviews on Yelp.

Bret C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Sept. 26, wrote, "It really is outstanding and lived up to the hype. They have nice people and excellent ice cream. They are very kind about sampling ice cream — unlike other shops that give you a dirty look when you ask to try something."

Yelper Cristina R. added, “Dangerously delish, small batch ice cream that fills a huge gap in the 'hood now that Toscanini's isn't around. The staff is super nice. They encouraged us to sample at least three flavors before making a decision. I was intrigued by the chocolate avocado, a vegan option.”

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: New City Microcreamery is open from 5–10 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 5–11 p.m. on Friday, and noon–11 p.m. on Saturday, and noon-9:30 p.m. on Sunday. (It's closed on Monday.)
