If you've got Mexican street food on the mind, a recent opening is need-to-know. Located at 1211 Commerce St. in the Main Street District, the new arrival is called Twisted Trompo. This is its first location, but it already has another on the way in Garland, and comes from the family behind Bachman Lake Tacos and several other local taco shops.
The spot specializes in trompo — or al pastor-style — meat, which it uses for its tacos, burritos and quesadillas, all served with rice and beans. Other meat options include barbacoa, carnitas and lengua. It also offers torta sandwiches, elotes (Mexican street corn) and more. (See the full menu here.)
Twisted Trompo has gotten good reviews thus far, with a four-star rating out of 28 reviews on Yelp.
Diamantina C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on Sept. 24, wrote, "We had the trompo tacos, steak tacos, elote and the twisted loaded fries. Everything was delicious. The trompo has a great char on it, which makes it very authentic. They have a steak trompo as well!"
And Melissa K. noted, "Food and service were superb. Tried their guacamole, salsa and queso with chips, steak taco, chicken taco and elote. They were all delicious. The staff were attentive and brought us food and drinks in a timely manner."
Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Twisted Trompo is open from 6 a.m.–10 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, 6 a.m.–midnight on Friday, 11 a.m.–midnight on Saturday, and 11 a.m.–10 p.m. on Sunday.
