There's always plenty to do in Phoenix, but finding fun on the cheap can be another story.

If you're on the hunt for events and activities that won't break the bank, we've got three solid options that won't cost you a dime, from a discussion of the role of water in art to paintings and pottery at an art show exhibit.

AZ H20 + Art

Jim Ballinger, the former director of the Phoenix Art Museum, will explore works of art over the past 150 years with water as their central theme. The program invites participants to discuss the ways water is systemic to life in the Arizona deserts, mountains and the Colorado Plateau.

Ballinger served as the museum's director for more than three decades, and personally organized 50 of the museum's 500 exhibits.

When: Thursday, Nov. 1, 6-8 p.m.

Digital writing workshop

This workshop will teach participants about digital writing and what it means on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Learn why this form of writing is different from other forms, and how to express yourself creatively.

Lunch will be provided. Bring your laptop or writing tool, and any written documents you would like reviewed by Arizona State University faculty.

Uptown Art Show

More than 25 local artists will display paintings, pottery, photography, jewelry, stained glass works, music and more. Artwork will be available for purchase.
