Opportunity Zones: Federal tax incentive discussion

Opportunity Zones is a new community development program established by the United States Congress' Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 to encourage long-term investment in low-income and urban communities nationwide. Come learn about how this program can help or hinder those in low-income situations and about the local effort being worked on to address the impact in the Twin Cities area.

Speakers will include co-directors of Frogtown Neighborhood Association Caty Royce and Tia Williams as well as Shauen Pearce, the director of economic development and inclusion policy for the city of Minneapolis.

Home for Good volunteer event

Come help assemble "welcome home" kits for individuals and families exiting homelessness around the area at this volunteer event. The kits will contain nearly 70 basic household items and will be used by the United Way and nonprofit partners from across the state to help families enter stable housing with the tools they need for success. 

When: Thursday, Nov. 8, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Where: Pipefitters Union Training Center, 1301 L'Orient St.

Brick Fest Live 

Join fellow LEGO enthusiasts by playing with over a million bricks. This fan experience is filled with hands-on attractions and activities engineered to inspire, educate and entertain.

There are multiple themes: The Glow Gallery, a way to look at LEGOs in a new light; Brick Fest Speedway, a customizable racetrack with LEGO cars; and Inspiration Stations. A video game arena, a miniature golf course and the world's largest mystery floor mosaic will also be on-site. 

When: Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 10-11, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
