Every year, at least since 1994, people have been celebrating World Vegan Day on November 1. That being said, you don't have to be a strict vegan to enjoy Minneapolis' vegan fare.
Fortunately, there are plenty of options from which to choose. To help, Hoodline combed through Yelp data and applied our own secret sauce to come up with the best vegan destinations in Minneapolis.
1. The Herbivorous Butcher
Topping the list is The Herbivorous Butcher. Located at 507 First Ave. NE, the vegan spot is the highest rated place of its kind in Minneapolis, boasting 4.5 stars out of 147 reviews on Yelp.
The eatery makes its small-batch vegan proteins and cheese by hand and features a menu that changes weekly. Current plant-based selections include a hot-pressed roast beef melt, bacon brats, meatloaf and a variety of jerky, all made with its meat-free meat. 2. May Day Cafe
Next up is Powderhorn 's May Day Cafe, situated at 3440 Bloomington Ave. With 4.5 stars out of 126 reviews on Yelp, the breakfast, brunch and vegan spot has proven to be a local favorite.
This eatery offers a number of caffeinated beverages and small bites such as sandwiches, quiche, pastries and other snacks.
Yelper Papyrus A. wrote, "A small locally owned place with a reasonably priced menu of healthy quality food. One of my favorite aspects of this place is that the menu has a variety of items in rotation. It's a great place to take someone that is vegan or vegetarian, as they do not have meat options on most of their items."
3. Crepe & Spoon
Then there's Crepe & Spoon, which has earned four stars out of 46 reviews on Yelp. The ice cream parlor and creperie, which specializes in vegan treats, is located at 339 22nd Ave. NE in Northeast Minneapolis.
Options include the sweet banana and cocoa crepe with hazelnut spread and ice creams made with coconut milk, cashew cream and almond milk.
Yelper Gabrielle R. said, "Oh. My. Gosh. Everything is vegan. ... I still cannot believe this is vegan. I got the cheesy bacon and it's super cheesy."
