Little Miss BBQ
8901 N. Seventh St., North Mountain

Little Miss BBQ is a spot to score barbecue and more. This is the popular spot's first expansion; the original restaurant is located over on E. University Drive.
No surprises here as the menu is dominated by brisket, pulled pork, turkey, sausage and beef ribs cooked on Camelback Smokers. Order your meat as a platter, with sides or in a sandwich. Diners can choose the brisket with potato salad and coleslaw, or opt for the pulled pork sandwich and add ranch-style beans and jalapeño cheddar grits. (Explore the full menu here.)
Little Miss BBQ has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of 12 reviews on Yelp.
Norm R., who was the first to review it on Nov. 20, wrote, "The legend has branched out and the wait is over! Even on the first day of operation there was a queue, but waiting in line was so worth it, just like in the other location. The new space is much bigger and has a spacious patio area to boot."
Connor O. said, "Best barbecue ever! Hands down. No competition. Is it worth the wait? Heck yeah it is. Be patient, make friends in line, you'll get through it."
Hungry? Drop in and check it out: Little Miss BBQ is open from 4–9 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 10 a.m.–3 p.m. on Sunday. (It's closed on Monday.)
Los Taquitos
3176 E. Indian School Road, Arcadia

Los Taquitos is a Mexican spot with three other locations in Arizona.
On the menu, look for tacos, tostadas, burritos, sandwiches, quesadillas and enchiladas. Guests can start with a plate of chips and guacamole, and then order the shrimp tacos with rice and beans, or opt for the green chile pork burritos with rice and beans as a side.
With a three-star rating out of seven reviews on Yelp so far, Los Taquitos is off to an uneven start, but it's still early days.
Yelper Justin G., who reviewed it on Nov. 12, said, "This spot hits the spot! Their tacos taste great. The meat is tender and seasoned well. I ordered a shredded pork quesadilla and a fish taco. Yum!"
Jack D., however, wrote, "What happened? The other location was really good, but the tacos here were bland and tasteless."
Los Taquitos is open from 9 a.m.–9 p.m. daily.
Pokéworks
4747 E. Bell Road, Paradise Valley

Pokéworks is a national Hawaiian chain that offers poke bowls, seafood and more.
Diners can begin by choosing a bowl, burrito or salad, then select from a list of proteins, such as shrimp and organic tofu. Next, pick from many add-in ingredients like mango and kale. Finally, choose a sauce and more toppings to complete the meal.
Alternatively, patrons can choose one of the signature bowls, like the Hawaiian Classic, which combines ahi tuna with green and sweet onions, ogo seaweed, cucumber, chili flakes, sesame seeds, roasted sesame oil, Hawaiian salt and signature sauce. (Check out the full menu here.)
Pokéworks has a four-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp so far, which shows it's off to a promising start.
Layne D., who reviewed it on Nov. 25, said, "The space is pretty big and has a modern feel to it. Obviously everything is new and clean, so that's always a bonus. They are set up like most poke places, but have some notable differences: they offer a few pre-created mixes on their menu if you don't want to build your own. They also have cooked chicken if raw seafood isn't your thing."
Walid S. added, "Ingredients are fresh and it's some of the best poke I've had in Arizona! Clean and maintains a friendly staff. Highly recommended!"
The new spot is open from 11 a.m.–9 p.m. daily.
