Crime incidents in Manchester saw an overall increase last week, after a previous decline, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents rose to 351 for the week of December 10, up from 345 the week before.
Assault and burglary led the increase in crime incidents. Assault rose to 77 incidents last week, from 62 the week before. Burglary went from five to 12.
Among the few types of offenses that saw a downturn last week, reports of theft went from 97 to 80. Incidents of vandalism fell from 14 to eight, and robbery went down from five to four.
There were 147 reports of "other" crimes, an increase of three from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. SpotCrime data also indicates that 23 arrests were made last week, up from 18 arrests the week before.
Considering the concentration of crime across the city, Kalivas Union, Somerville and Downtown continued to have the most reported incidents last week.
Corey Square experienced the highest growth in crime; incidents in the neighborhood have been rising for two weeks in a row. Crime reports in North of Bridge also rose, after declining the week before, and incidents in Hallsville are up considerably as well.
Regarding day and time factors, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays saw the most reported crimes last week. The largest increase from the previous week occurred on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, while incidents on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays went down. Late afternoon, late morning and early afternoon continue to see the most crime incidents.
