Crime incidents in Worcester saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 673 for the week of December 10, down from 700 the week before.
The overall decrease in crime incidents was led by vandalism and assault. Vandalism fell to 17 incidents last week, from 29 the week before. Assault went from 110 to 106. Reports of vandalism have continued to fall for the last two weeks.
There were eight reported robbery incidents last week. That represents a decrease from nine incidents the previous week.
Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last week, reports of burglary went from 15 to 24, and theft rose from 88 to 91.
There were 398 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 11 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. SpotCrime data also indicates that 29 arrests were made last week, down from 40 arrests the week before.
Regarding when crime most often occurs, Monday, Wednesdays and Saturdays saw the most reported crimes last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, while incidents on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays went up. Late afternoon, evening and late morning saw the most crime last week.
