Looking to chow down on some Latin American fare? A new spot has you covered. Called La Placita, the fresh addition is located at 6789 Biscayne Blvd. in MiMo District. With its exterior mural of the Puerto Rican flag, this eatery delivers chef Medin's bold new spin on traditional Puerto Rican staples.
This spot's offerings include croquetas de pollo (chicken croquettes), empanadillas de jueyes (blue land crab turnovers), chicharrones de pollo (made with chicken) and two mofongos—one with shrimp and the other with crab from Loiza. Wash it all down with Puerto Rican beer or a whiskey sour. (Explore its menu here.)
La Placita has received solid reviews thus far, with a 3.5-star rating out of 26 reviews on Yelp.
Yelper Marta R., who reviewed it on Jan. 5, said, "A piece of home in Miami. Food is amazing, just like when our grandmothers cooked! The pork with arroz mamposteao con lentejas is extraordinary! The mofongo with ropa vieja was delicious! The carne guisada is a must have! Appetizers are excellent. And desserts are to die for! Very well decorated."
And Roberto S. wrote, "Both mofongos I tried were delicious and full of flavor. The portions are a bit small compared to the traditional serving of mofongo, but you'll live! The mariquitas with their hummus was different, yet I found myself eating away!"
Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: La Placita is open from 3–11 p.m. on Tuesday-Saturday and 3–10 p.m. on Sunday. (It's closed on Monday.)
