Manchester crime incidents down in December; vandalism and burglary dropPhoto: iStock

Crime reports in Manchester saw an overall decline last month, for the second month in a row, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources.

Incidents fell by about 22 percent, from 1,912 in November to 1,488 in December. Crime trends are often seasonal, and some of the most common offenses tend to decline in winter, which might partly explain the most recent downward trend.

The month-to-month decrease in incidents was led by vandalism and burglary. Vandalism fell from 161 reported incidents in November to 61 in December. Burglary incidents went from 45 to 32 for the month, or about a 28 percent decrease.

There were 307 assault reports last month, and 14 robbery incidents. Assault incidents dropped from 316 offenses the previous month, while robbery reports stayed even.

Looking at crime patterns in different areas of the city, Downtown, Kalivas Union and Piscataquog saw the largest decline from November to December.

Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays produced the most crime incidents last month. The largest decrease from the previous month occurred on Thursdays, Fridays and Wednesdays, while incidents on Saturdays went up. Late morning, late afternoon and midday continue to see the most crime incidents on average each day.
