Crime incidents in Manchester saw an overall decrease last week, after a previous rise, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources. Incidents fell to 284 for the week of Jan. 7, down from 330 the week before.

Theft and assault led the decrease in crime incidents. Theft fell to 62 incidents last week, from 81 the week before. Assault went from 60 to 55. Reports of assault have continued to fall for the last four weeks.

There were seven reported burglary incidents last week. That represents a decrease from nine incidents the previous week. There were also six incidents of robbery, down from seven the week before.

There were 132 reports of "other" crimes, a decrease of 22 from the previous week. SpotCrime's broad "other" category includes a variety of offenses like fraud, trespassing, public disturbance and traffic violations. SpotCrime data also indicates that 16 arrests were made last week, up from eight arrests the week before.

Looking at crime patterns in different areas of the city, Southside, Kalivas Union and downtown had the most reported incidents last week. Southside and Kalivas Union were at the top of the list the previous week as well.

Straw/Smyth experienced the largest drop in crime. Crime reports in Somerville also fell, after increasing the week before, and incidents in Northwest Manchester are down considerably as well.

Regarding when crime most often occurs, Thursdays, Fridays and Wednesdays saw the most crime incidents last week. The largest decrease from the previous week occurred on Mondays, Saturdays and Wednesdays, while incidents on Thursdays and Sundays went up. Early morning, late morning and midday saw the most crime last week.
