Crime reports in Worcester saw an overall increase last month, after a previous decline, according to data from SpotCrime, which collects data from police agencies and validated sources.

Incidents rose by 8.7 percent, from 2,676 in November to 2,910 in December.

The offenses most on the rise last month were assault and theft. Assault rose from 436 reported incidents in November to 465 in December. Theft incidents went from 336 to 363 for the month, or about an 8 percent increase.

While somewhat smaller categories, there was also a considerable percentage increase last month in robbery, from 18 incidents per month to 25, and in vandalism, from 91 to 104. Robbery reports have decreased since the same month last year, while vandalism incidents have declined.

There were 94 burglary reports last month. Burglary incidents rose from 82 offenses the previous month.

Saturdays, Mondays and Sundays experienced the most reported crimes last month. The largest increase from the previous month occurred on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays, while incidents on Fridays, Thursdays and Wednesdays went down. Late afternoon, midday and early afternoon saw the most crime last month on average each day.
